Newly discovered mummy

Chungcheong Research Institute of Cultural Heritage discovered Joseon mummy in 2010, from small town called Hongsung. They collaborate with us to examine them; first of all, removal of clothes from the mummy was performed in my lab. As usual, Korean mummy full wrapped with clothes was moved to my lab; and biological sampling was done after clothes removal was done by textile specialist invited. This case was 9th removal of clothes from Korean mummies since 2007.

Before clothes removal

Many pieces of clothes were collected from the mummy. Dr. Koh BJ said that this must have been buried before Seven Year War between Korea and Japan (1592-1598), including very rarely discovered findings, such as the paper shoes (See below). That is, this is 400 year or more old case!!

We fiished the removal of clothes today. And forthcoming anthropological studies are planned now. Even if we could not reveal at this time, very interesting find was also discovered in this case.
